What Are Weft Extensions?

A woman with red hair holds an iPad while another woman smiles behind her in a modern salon

Weft extensions use a curtain of hair carefully adhered to your natural hair using comfortable beads. The result is veil-like coverage that moves naturally with your hair, holds up through daily styling, and can be worn up or down with minimal visibility.

Unlike other methods that work strand by strand, wefts cover larger sections at once, making them one of the most efficient and versatile extension options available. Whether you’re adding volume, length, or both, wefts adapt to your hair and your lifestyle.

Who wefts work best for:

  • Fine to medium hair needing volume or length
  • Guests who wear their hair up regularly and need extensions that stay hidden
  • Anyone wanting a method that grows out gracefully between maintenance appointments

Your Consultation

Every weft install starts with a conversation. Your stylist will assess your hair type, density, and goals, then recommend the right number of rows and a color match. You’ll leave with a clear plan and a full quote, so no surprises.

Your Install

On transformation day, your hair will be sectioned, beaded, and wefted with precision. Every install includes a shampoo, blowout, blending, and finishing style so you leave looking and feeling exactly how you imagined.

Your Maintenance

Weft extensions require regular maintenance to keep them looking their best as your natural hair grows. Your stylist will recommend a maintenance schedule during your consultation, and Crown Society membership makes staying on track effortless and affordable.

How many rows of weft extensions do I need?

That depends on your natural hair density, the amount of volume or length you’re looking for, and where you want to wear your hair most often.

  • One row suits fine hair needing minimal volume.
  • Two rows add length and volume for fine to medium hair.
  • Three rows are better suited to medium to thick hair needing more coverage.

Your stylist will make a specific recommendation at your consultation based on what they see in person.

Can I wear my weft extensions in a ponytail or updo?

Yes! This is one of the key advantages of the weft method.

Your stylist will place the wefts well away from your hairline so you can wear your hair up without the extensions showing.

As your hair grows between appointments, keeping up with your maintenance schedule is the best way to maintain that flexibility.

Your stylist will also walk you through styling tips at your install to help you get the most out of every look.

What is a weft lift, and when do I need one?

A weft lift — sometimes called a move-up — is a maintenance appointment where your existing wefts are gently repositioned closer to your scalp as your natural hair grows. It preserves your current hair rather than replacing it, making it a more cost-effective option than a full reinstall.

Most guests need a lift every six to eight weeks, though your stylist will recommend a schedule based on how quickly your natural hair grows.

How do I care for my weft extensions at home?

The fundamentals of caring for your weft extensions are home: brush regularly with a soft-bristle or loop brush starting from the ends and working up, wash gently with sulfate-free products, always use heat protection before styling, and avoid sleeping with wet hair.

The beads can loosen if exposed to excessive tension or product buildup, so keeping up with regular washing and avoiding heavy oils near the roots helps maintain them between appointments. Your stylist will go through a full home care routine with you at your install.

What happens if a weft slips or a bead comes loose between appointments?
